Departed

Departed

Oh lonely one who’s partner left to join those throngs on high,
Do not despair, a loving Savior hears your every cry.
He’s always near through pain or fear, He never leaves your side,
When earthly comforters must leave He’s promised to abide.
He also promised us that we may meet in heaven fair,
And you can have the confidence your loved one’s waiting there.
But though you know, without a doubt that God is in control,
These dread events I’m sure are hard and try your inmost soul.
Just look to Him who never fails, and set your goals on high,
He’ll take you where your loved one is; a home beyond the sky.

Regret

Regret

Oh how I wish I could undo,
Those deeds done long ago,
When I encouraged one to leave
The faith I now love so.

She was my sister, oh, so dear,
And yet I missed the fact,
That once she took that downward step,
She might not e’er come back.

So troubled youth, I ask you now,
When church life seems too rough,
Do not yield to the urge to leave
When things seem just to tough.

Our Savior to, was tempted sore,
When with great self-denial,
He went an-hungered forty days,
And still o’ercame His trial.

And since He won that victory,
We have this promise sure;
That we can conquer every foe,
And live for ever more!

Deathbed

Deathbed

Dear friends and family do not weep,
I have not died only gone to sleep.
And though my body’s cold and still,
This is God’s holy perfect will.

Now as you gaze upon my face,
Remember you’ll too reach this place,
And when death’s angel stills your flesh,
Where will you be right after death?

Will you be walking golden streets,
Or hurtling down through fiery deeps?
Be living in a mansion bright,
Or always dying through endless night?

And now I bid you all good-bye,
The Lord has called me to the sky,
There I shall live with Him for aye,
Throughout an endless golden day!

I hope to greet you at the gate,
I hope not one will be too late,
To see our Bridegroom face to face,
And sing for ever of his grace.

Brightening Outlook

Brightening Outlook

Life ahead right now looks empty,
No clear path that I can see,
And the future looms before me,
Filled with dark uncertainty.

Circumstances press down on me,
Darkness glooms on every side.
Everything looks dark and dreary,
Faced by rivers deep and wild.

Roaring waters flooding past me,
Trying to drag me to my death.
And without a light to guide me,
How shall I escape it’s breath?!

No way left to go before me,
To go back there is no way;
Must I stay here, cold and dreary,
Till the breaking of the day?

Hark! A light! A glimmer growing!
Through the darkness and the night.
And a gentler stream is flowing,
Op’ning up the path of right!

Now I hear my Savior talking,
In a voice so small and still,
By my side He now is walking,
And my path with light doth fill.

Though I still can’t see the future,
And I cannot understand,
Everything about my Father,
He will lead me by the hand.

To that land of peace and glory,
With the angels; with no night,
If I only trust each worry,
To His never ending might.

So in peace I walk beside Him,
Holding tightly to His hand,
Placing all my conf’dence in Him,
Till I cross the final strand.

Long Day

Long Day

This is one of those days that seems dreadfully long,
And I feel that all I try just turns out all wrong,
When all those that surround me seem happy and free,
But no beauty exists in all that I can see.
Then when night comes and I am alone without sleep,
A verse comes to my mind, tis so rich and so deep!
It is found in Psalm one forty seven, verse three,
And it’s message is always uplifting to me.
Oh He healeth the broken in heart don’t you see,
That this wonderful promise was written for me!

Psalm 147:3 He healeth the broken in heart,
and bindeth up their wounds
-KJV

God’s Love

God’s Love

A person once asked me
Why I love the Lord.
What great debt He paid that
I could not afford.

i told him the answer
Is easy to see,
I love my dear Savior,
‘Cause He first loved me!

I took him to first John,
The chapter of four,
There verse nineteen showed him
That God loves me more.

He wondered then how I
Could love Him so much,
When I had not seen Him,
Nor heard Him as such.

I took him back up to
Chapter four verse twelve
And showed him that God can
Be inside ourselves.

Then finally I told him
God also loves him,
And sent His own Son to
Redeem him from sin.

I told him if he will
Just open his heart,
Then God will come in and
Divine peace impart.

Apples

Apples

As apples have coloured skins, green, red, and gold,
So clothes should distinguish new men from the old
While apples work well just to demonstrate clothes
Won’t christians act differently from all Christ’s foes?

The Bible has many clear teachings on dress
But surely it also says something on this!
James one, twenty-seven is clear in it’s thought,
Religion isn’t Christian till good deeds are wrought.

While apple’s skins always show what is inside,
Some christian’s plain clothes can effectively hide
The carnal will working and fighting within,
With unwaning fervour, compelling to sin.

They might look quite good on the outside, ’tis true,
But carnal spots damage them all the way through.
When worms eat an apple, we cut out the worm,
So all of the rest will stay luscious and firm.

But what do we do with the spots in our lives?
We cannot remove them with physical knives!
We cannot remove them in our strength alone,
We need the assistance of One Who doth own,

Our souls and our bodies, and the One Who can clean,
Our spirit and conscience although they’re unseen.
His word is so pow’rful, so quick, and so sharp,
Discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart.

That He might present us to Him without spot,
And wrinkles or any such thing we’ll have not!
Bur faultless before all His glory we’ll be,
To live there and always His face we will see!
